Wharton Depot Park
Back when people traveled frequently by passenger rail, the train depot and neighboring park in Wharton, Texas, were one of the most vital areas in town. Over time, as train travel diminished, the depot and park became run down and neglected. To restore community pride in this historic treasure, the City of Wharton received federal grant money to transform the depot into a museum and commuter hub and to restore the park to its
original design. We collaborated with Stern & Bucek Architects of Houston to revitalize the park and landscape around the depot. Today, it’s the site of town festivals and community gatherings. Work performed while employed with Land Design Studio. Photographs courtesy of the City of Wharton and photographer David Bucek.
